Cate W.
Private tutor in Halifax, Canada
Education
I have a Master of Science (Pharmacology) from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Science (Honours, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) from Dalhousie University. I also have a Certificate in Adult Education from the Tatamagouche Centre and a Diploma in Information Technology (Database) from Nova Scotia Community College.
Experience
During my ten years of professional tutoring and academic coaching, I have been self-employed as a tutor and have worked for the Saint Mary's University Writing Centre and Dalhousie's Transition Year Program. I am currently a volunteer literacy educator at Keshen Goodman Library. I am a published author with experience in academic research and writing, my MCAT score was 35/45, and I have completed several education-related MOOCs including Learning How to Learn (University of California, San Diego, 2015) and Assessment and Teaching of 21st Century Skills (University of Melbourne, 2014). I speak French and English and hold awards for academic achievements, public speaking, and innovation. I am skilled at listening deeply to my students and finding novel and straightforward ways of clarifying difficult concepts. I love teaching and believe that an understanding of how learning -- and one's own mind -- works can benefit anyone's educational independence.
